EXHIBITION
23–25 October 2026 · In conjunction with Art Basel Paris
Andrée Cooke
In conjunction with Art Basel Paris, Kalkeriet Contemporary presented work by Andrée Cooke, examining how fragments of the built environment can acquire new scale and expression through textiles. The presentation centred on Sprinkle, a two-part hand-knotted work developed for Atelier Bowy C.D. and Henzel Studio’s The Atelier Editions.
Creased metal, folded surfaces and traces of the city provide the starting points for Cooke’s composition. Translated into black, white and grey, these observations become elongated, irregular forms that suggest both an image and a sculptural object. Their angular edges and compressed geometries retain a sense of the materials from which they originate.
The relationship between the two elements is central to the work. Set apart, they draw attention to the interval between them, making the surrounding floor part of the composition. Changes in pile height and the combination of wool, merino, mohair, linen, Lyocell and silk give the surface depth, with light revealing different planes as the viewer moves around it. The exhibition invited close attention to textile as a spatial medium, and to how material, outline and placement can transform the perception of an everyday environment.
