Developed for Atelier Bowy C.D., part of Henzel Studio, this work by Andrée Cooke forms part of The Atelier Editions program, a series of limited textile works created in collaboration with artists, architects and designers. The piece is introduced in the context of Milan Design Week 2026 at Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, within the historic spaces of Le Cavallerizze.
Cooke’s work begins with fragments of the city. Creased metal, folded surfaces and traces of urban residue become the starting point for a sculptural translation into textile form. In this composition, such fragments are enlarged and extended into elongated structures that move across the surface like suspended bodies.
The work unfolds as two connected forms that together frame an open central void. Each element can exist independently, while the pair establishes a spatial dialogue that allows the composition to shift between object and environment.
The design reads less as a pattern and more as a spatial gesture. Angular forms appear folded or compressed, carrying the memory of materials shaped by pressure and time. Through scale and displacement, what might once have existed as a small fragment becomes a quiet presence within the room.
Variations in pile height translate these folded geometries into subtle relief. Certain planes catch light while others recede, allowing the surface to move between graphic clarity and sculptural depth. Approached this way, the rug functions as a textile body that inhabits space rather than merely covering it.
Originally trained as a fine artist, Cooke has spent over two decades working across curatorial practice, gallery direction, interior design and creative direction. Based in London, her studio operates at the intersection of art, design and cultural research, developing interiors, exhibitions and commissions for private clients, cultural institutions and international brands.
For this collaboration with Atelier Bowy C.D. and Henzel Studio, that multidisciplinary approach is distilled into a textile composition that transforms fragments of the urban environment into sculptural presence.
