Claude Guillaumin

Claude Guillaumin approaches photography through the relationship between a figure and the space around it. Drawing on his work in fashion and portraiture, he gives gesture, light and framing a precise compositional role. A pose establishes the rhythm of an image; a glance or an incidental detail can shift its emphasis. The resulting photographs hold the viewer’s attention through the interplay of formal control and the character of an encounter.

The presentation brings together Aria Deauville (1976), Waterproof Mascara Esti Millet (1975) and two versions of Pool Remi (2013). Moving between black-and-white and colour photography, the selection traces Guillaumin’s use of light, gesture and setting across different moments in his practice. Each work is presented as an archival pigment print on Hahnemühle fine art paper, printed in 2025 in a signed and numbered edition of 20.
