Henzel Studio presents a work from its collaboration with The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts at Kalkeriet Contemporary, reinterpreting Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe imagery through handmade textile form. Designed by Calle Henzel and curated by Joakim Andreasson, the work forms part of Henzel Studio Heritage — a program developed with foundations and estates of leading 20th-century artists. For Henzel Studio: Andy Warhol, Andreasson identified and applied as basis for the collection a maquette Warhol created for an unrealized artists book. To expand on the maquette, the original Monroe portraits have been further deconstructed and appropriated by Calle Henzel. Henzel applied his signature design characteristic; freeform organic shapes, strategically placed holes, uneven punk-like fringes and elaborate surface treatments.
