Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present photographer Geoff MacCormack, one of David Bowie’s oldest and closest friends, with their bond extending back to their childhood in Bromley. From 1973 to 1976, MacCormack toured with Bowie as a backing vocalist, dancer, and percussionist, contributing to five of Bowie’s albums, from 'Aladdin Sane' to 'Station to Station'. He also co-wrote 'Rock ‘n’ Roll With Me' on 'Diamond Dogs' and 'Turn Blue' with Bowie on Iggy Pop’s 'Lust for Life'. Due to Bowie’s aversion to air travel, the two friends, who had known each other since school, journeyed across the globe by sea, land, and train. This unconventional travel allowed MacCormack to capture candid, intimate photographs of Bowie, offering a rare glimpse into their friendship. Our curated collection showcases these photographs, providing a unique insight into this extraordinary period in Bowie’s life.
"Just suppose your brilliant pal said: 'Will you join my band (The Spiders From Mars) and come on tour?'"
- Geoff MacCormack
