Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Principal Bar Chair, designed by Bodil Kjaer in 1961. Bodil Kjaer is a pioneering Danish architect, designer, and professor, celebrated for her influential role in midcentury design. Featured in The New York Times and WSJ Magazine, she gained international acclaim for her iconic MIT desk—hailed as "the most beautiful desk in the world" and featured in early James Bond films. Though trained by Finn Juhl, Kjær forged her own path, drawing inspiration from American modernists like Charles and Ray Eames. Many of her most notable works emerged during her time in the U.S., where she worked with Paul McCobb and specialized in corporate interiors. Now based in Jutland, Denmark, she continues to teach, research, and contribute to architectural projects in Aarhus. Founded on rebellious curiosity and a passion for the unique, Karakter is a bit out of the ordinary. Rooted in the proud Danish design tradition, but always maintaining an international outlook, Karakter presents a striking portfolio of furniture, lighting and objects from designers who have already written the history of design to those who are aspiring to write the future.
