Oskar Zięta develops form through the behaviour of metal under pressure. In his FiDU process, two welded sheets expand with compressed air, acquiring volume through the material’s response to a precise construction. Folds and irregular edges retain a record of that transformation. Air and Reflection brings together mirrors and seating in which this approach becomes visible at different scales. Polished surfaces draw the surrounding room into the work, while changes in light and viewpoint continually alter its appearance. The object is encountered through both its physical outline and the space it reflects.

The welded outline establishes a limit; pressure gives the sheet its depth. Zięta allows the metal’s response to remain visible, so that a resolved shape still carries the traces of its making.

A reflective surface changes as the viewer moves. In Zięta’s mirrors, the curved edges interrupt the image of the room, drawing attention to the metal as a volume as well as a surface.

In Plopp, the same process takes on the task of supporting the body. The folds register how a flat construction acquires volume, giving the stool a softness of appearance within a metal structure.
