Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present the work of Simone Steenberg, a Danish fine art photographer based between Paris and Copenhagen whose practice explores femininity, transformation, and the relationship between the human body and landscape. Her photographs occupy an atmospheric space where figure and environment exist in quiet dialogue, forming a visual language that is both precise and expansive.

Working with analogue processes, Steenberg embraces a method defined by attentiveness and physical engagement. The measured pace of the medium fosters a close connection with her subjects, resulting in images of remarkable tonal richness and material presence.

Portraiture lies at the centre of her practice. Through subtle shifts in light, posture, and expression, she creates works that evoke introspection and emotional complexity, revealing new layers through sustained observation.

Steenberg’s photography has appeared in Vogue, and Costume Magazine, reflecting the growing international recognition of her work while preserving the depth of her fine art practice. Her photographs invite close attention and continue to unfold in meaning over time.

More details

Framing Bowie 1967-1991 Unseen and Iconic Photographs by Clive Arrowsmith, Brian Aris, and Geoff MacCormack

Kalkeriet Contemporary is proud to present Framing Bowie 1967–1991, an exhibition of signed and numbered photographs by Clive Arrowsmith, Brian Aris and Geoff MacCormack.

Spanning more than two decades of David Bowie’s career, the exhibition follows his visual evolution from Arrowsmith’s early 1967 portraits to Aris’ bold 1991 images of Bowie in Thierry Mugler. MacCormack’s candid photographs, made during his years as Bowie’s friend and collaborator, offer a more intimate perspective.

Together, these works reveal Bowie as performer, style icon and restless creative force—seen both in public and behind the scenes.

Peter Varga

As a young student in Hungary, Peter Varga was once reprimanded for drawing in class — an encounter that unexpectedly led him to a master fresco painter who became his mentor. He later worked in the traditional Roman fresco method across churches, theaters, and historic buildings throughout Europe, including projects at the Vatican. This early immersion in classical techniques established a lasting appreciation for craftsmanship, materiality, and the relationship between art and architecture.

Formally trained in carpentry, Varga went on to study furniture design and architecture, earning a Master’s in Architectural Design from the University of Sopron. During this period, his experimentation with plaster evolved into a broader exploration of the material as both a structural and expressive medium. Drawing on his diverse background, Varga developed a distinctive approach in which traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary artistic expression, exploring the interplay of texture, form, and surface. His work reflects a fascination with the transformative possibilities of materials and their ability to create objects with a strong sculptural presence.

Calle Henzel

Kalkeriet Contemporary is Henzel Studio’s official gallery in Scandinavia, presenting the studio’s artist collaborations and Calle Henzel’s signature collections across the region.

Founded in 1999 by artist and Creative Director Calle Henzel, Henzel Studio has established a distinctive position at the intersection of contemporary art, architecture and collectible design. Henzel’s own works are recognised for their nuanced exploration of light, texture, erosion and sculptural form. Each hand-knotted piece is conceived as a work of art within an interior, creating a lasting dialogue between material, colour, surface and space.

Alongside Calle Henzel’s collections, Henzel Studio has developed a singular programme of artist collaborations and cultural initiatives with internationally acclaimed artists, foundations and estates, including The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Tom of Finland Foundation and the Pollock-Krasner Foundation. Created through close dialogue between artist, studio and specialist artisans, these limited-edition works translate individual artistic practices into hand-knotted compositions of exceptional material depth and presence.

Works by Calle Henzel and Henzel Studio have been presented in museum and institutional contexts including MoMA PS1, MOCA Los Angeles, the Katonah Museum of Art, Boca Raton Museum of Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art. At Kalkeriet, collectors, architects and interior designers can experience selected works in person and receive personal guidance on available editions, commissions and projects.

Oskar Zięta

Steel takes on an unexpected softness in the work of Oskar Zięta. The Polish architect, artist and founder of Zieta Studio transforms metal into mirrors, furniture and sculptural objects defined by fluid contours and reflective surfaces.

At the centre of his practice is FiDU: thin sheets of metal are cut, welded together and inflated with compressed air, expanding into three-dimensional forms. Zięta calls this a “controlled loss of control”, where precise engineering meets the material’s response to pressure, giving each object distinctive folds and irregularities.

In the Rondo mirror, a circular form gains sculptural depth. Its polished steel surface captures light, colour and surrounding architecture, while curved edges distort their reflections. As daylight and viewpoints change, the work offers a shifting interpretation of its setting.

Zięta’s works are held in museum collections including the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Museum für Gestaltung in Zurich.

Kalkeriet Contemporary presents a selection of his mirrors, seating and sculptural objects, exploring the relationship between material, process and the spaces we inhabit.

Frieze Los Angeles

Kalkeriet had the privilege of curating a site-specific installation featuring works by Verter Turroni, Jack Pierson, Olaf Breuning, and Calle Henzel, presented in dialogue with Henzel Studio Collaborations: 1st Decade at PDC Design Gallery (formerly MOCA’s West Hollywood space), in conjunction with Frieze Los Angeles.

Celebrating ten years of Henzel Studio’s artist-designed rugs, the exhibition brought together over 25 works, including new collaborations with John Waters, Mickalene Thomas, and Anselm Reyle — pushing the boundaries of textile-based artistic practice.

Turroni’s sculptural works offered a powerful counterbalance to the rug installations, bridging material expression across disciplines and highlighting the dynamic tension between object and surface.

Presented at PDC Design Gallery — a venue with a storied history of showcasing radical intersections between art and design — the exhibition followed in the footsteps of past presentations by Rick Owens, Takashi Murakami, and others.

Also featured were works by Vanessa Beecroft, Olaf Breuning, Nan Goldin, Marilyn Minter, Tony Oursler, Richard Prince, Mickalene Thomas, Andy Warhol, and more. Curated by Joakim Andreasson, with exhibition design in collaboration with Calle Henzel.

Pietro Franceschini

At the intersection of architecture, contemporary design and digital culture, Pietro Franceschini creates objects that challenge conventional ideas of form and function. Born in Florence and working between Milan and New York, the Italian architect and designer combines classical influences with an experimental, distinctly contemporary approach.

His work moves effortlessly between sculpture and furniture, balancing playful proportions, unexpected geometries and refined materials. Drawing inspiration from antiquity, pop culture and digital environments, Franceschini creates pieces that feel simultaneously familiar and otherworldly. Each object explores the tension between reality and imagination, questioning where functional design ends and artistic expression begins.

Educated in Italy, Portugal and the United States, Franceschini has collaborated with leading international architecture practices. In 2020, he founded PF|Studio, focusing on collectible furniture, interiors and experimental design.

Kalkeriet Contemporary presents a curated selection of his work, reflecting his distinctive approach to form, materiality and contemporary design.

Verter Turroni

Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Italian artist and designer Verter Turroni, whose sculptural creations explore the relationship between nature, materiality and contemporary design. As co-founder of Imperfetto Lab, Turroni transforms organic forms into expressive objects that blur the boundaries between furniture and sculpture.

Inspired by nature’s irregular beauty, his work is characterised by fluid silhouettes, tactile surfaces and an almost geological presence. Each creation challenges conventional ideas of form and function, bringing a distinctive sculptural identity to contemporary spaces.

Founded in 1992 by Turroni and Emanuela Ravelli in Gambettola, Italy, Imperfetto Lab is celebrated for its experimental approach to craftsmanship. Working primarily with fiberglass, the studio produces durable, lightweight objects, individually finished by hand to give each piece its unique character.

Through material experimentation and an appreciation of imperfection, Turroni creates objects that exist at the intersection of art, design and craftsmanship.
