Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Aella , a lamp designed by Renato Toso and Giovanna Noti Massari. Aella-meaning "whirlwind" — captures dynamic motion through its handblown glass diffuser, casting graceful light patterns from a single, central point. Designed in 1968 by Toso and Massari, this timeless table and pendant lamp collection reflects Leucos’ signature design ethos.
Renato Toso (b. 1940, Murano) and Giovanna Noti Massari (b. 1939, Venice) are architects, designers, and partners in life and work since 1968. Based in Zero Branco (TV), they work across architecture, furniture, renovation, and design.
Their bond with Leucos is both professional and personal—they helped found the company, inspired by their early experiences in Renato’s family glassworks, Fratelli Toso. Notable projects include the Scandolara school complex, renovations in Venice’s historic center, and Leucos’ offices in Scorzè.
Since 2002, they have also designed monasteries in East Africa for the Camaldoli Benedictine Monks. Their design work spans lighting, glass objects, furnishings, and fabrics, collaborating with various brands. Their work has been shown at Palazzo Grassi, the Louvre, the Pompidou Centre, and MoMA New York, earning numerous international awards.
