RICHARD MOSSE, The Enclave, 2015
Exhibition poster
80 × 100 cm (31.5 × 39.4 in)
Unframed
Kalkeriet is pleased to present, in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, a poster featuring 'The Enclave' by Irish artist Richard Mosse (b. 1980), showcased at Louisiana in 2015.
Mosse’s work takes a documentary approach, venturing into conflict zones typically covered by war photographers, rather than working as a traditional studio artist. Central to The Enclave is Mosse’s innovative use of a special military surveillance film that captures infrared light—normally invisible to the human eye—reflected by the chlorophyll in green plants. This film renders lush foliage in striking bright pink tones, transforming the landscape into a surreal, otherworldly scene.
Through this unique visual language, 'The Enclave' explores the civil war in eastern Congo, revealing the fragmented, chaotic nature of conflict. The work exposes war as a confusing, overwhelming nightmare, where moments of haunting beauty interrupt violent upheaval, and an ever-present fear simmers beneath the surface.
