Unique
Ott-chil on Steel
H 46 x W 40 x D 35 cm
(H 18 x W 15.7 x D 13.8 in)
Made to order. Dispatched within 10 - 12 weeks.
Ok Kim is Seoul based artist specialized in contemporary art and sculptural furniture. She practices the very traditional Ott-chil (Korean lacquer) technique, a natural lacquer which is filtered, refined, and obtained with the sap from lacquer trees, native to Korea, China, Japan, and the Southeast Asian region, adding a contemporary twist using bold colors and sculptural forms. Her 'Slanted' works is inspired by an old Korean tradition for good fortune to carefully balance stones into stacks. The structure of the pieces is made of steel which is varnished with layers of ‘Ott-chil’. The production process includes lacquering, sanding and polishing - the method is very time consuming and one piece takes several months to complete.
