For 20 years, THOMAS has been celebrating the power of the Female gaze. Her practice explores femininity, race, culture, sexuality and beauty, through artworks which empower and offer new avenues for representation.

Mickalene Thomas (b. 1971) is a celebrated American artist known for her dazzling, rhinestone-studded paintings, photography, and video works that explore Black femininity, beauty, and identity. Drawing inspiration from art history, pop culture, and personal narratives, Thomas challenges traditional notions of representation while celebrating the power and agency of Black women.
