Kalkeriet is pleased to present, in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, a poster featuring Adjö (2020) by Swedish painter Mamma Andersson (b. 1962), released in connection with the 2024 exhibition Parrhesia – Works from the Collection.
Mamma Andersson is internationally acclaimed for her unique blend of figurative painting that merges narrative storytelling with dreamlike, atmospheric qualities. Her work often explores themes of memory, domestic life, and the subconscious, creating scenes that feel both familiar and mysterious. She draws inspiration from everyday life, literature, and music, crafting layered compositions that invite reflection and interpretation.
Technically, Andersson combines several different materials in her works. Her distinctive aesthetic arises from repeated layering and overpainting. Oil on canvas is covered with spray paint, and thin bands of paint are dragged across the surface, creating a rich material texture and variation that places craftsmanship at the forefront.
The Louisiana collection has an international scope and focuses on art from 1945 to the present day. While painting and sculpture are central, the collection also includes photography, installation, and video. It serves as both the museum’s DNA and a dynamic entity continually evolving.
