KAARI UPSON, Untitled, 2009
Exhibition poster
84.1 × 118.9 cm (33.1 × 46.8 in)
Unframed
Kalkeriet is pleased to present, in collaboration with the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art, a poster featuring 'Untitled' (2009), a pastel work by American artist Kaari Upson (1970–2021), created as part of her retrospective exhibition Dollhouse – A Retrospective. This marks the first major museum exhibition of Upson’s work since her passing.
At the time of her untimely death in 2021, Upson was widely recognized as one of the most compelling and multifaceted American artists of her generation. Her body of work—spanning sculpture, drawing, video, performance, and installation—investigates themes of identity, the body, emotional memory, illness, and loss with raw honesty and psychological intensity.
Though her career was cut short, Upson’s influence has only grown. She is increasingly seen as a modern classic, her work forming a vital bridge between today’s emerging voices and legendary figures such as Louise Bourgeois, Claes Oldenburg, Lynda Benglis, Mike Kelley, and Cindy Sherman.
Untitled (2009) captures the tactile, intimate quality that defines much of Upson’s output—a poignant and layered reflection of her enduring artistic legacy.
