Calle Henzel’s Diamond Dust collection explores the fleeting luminosity of the natural phenomenon known as diamond dust — microscopic ice crystals suspended in cold air that refract light into shimmering atmospheric fields. Translating this ephemeral condition into textile form, the collection investigates light, reflection, texture, and material transformation through hand-knotted surfaces of remarkable depth and nuance.

Developed through years of experimentation, the collection emerged from Henzel’s ongoing studies of how rugs respond to environmental exposure and shifting natural conditions. During a decade-long process in Northern Sweden, selected works and material samples were subjected to snow, ice, moisture, freezing temperatures, and seasonal transitions, allowing external forces to actively inform the development of texture, surface irregularity, and tonal movement.

The resulting works evoke the reflective qualities of snow and ice illuminated by winter light. Variations in pile height, density, and material composition create surfaces that shift subtly with perspective and changing illumination, producing moments of shimmer and atmospheric depth. These tactile transformations reflect Henzel’s ongoing investigation into materiality, environmental processes, and the relationship between natural phenomena and textile form.
