Developed for Atelier Bowy C.D., part of Henzel Studio, this work by Annysa LaMantia forms part of The Atelier Editions program, a series of limited textile works created in collaboration with artists, architects and designers. Titled Reincarnation, the work is presented alongside the companion pieces Carpe Diem and Past Life, together forming a trilogy introduced in the context of Milan Design Week 2026 at Museo Nazionale Scienza e Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci, within the historic spaces of Le Cavallerizze.
Originating from LaMantia’s capsule Continuum, the body of work emerges from an ongoing research into cycles of formation, erosion and renewal. Across the compositions, surface pressure, exposed threads and tonal transitions evoke processes of sedimentation, where layers accumulate, shift and gradually transform over time.
Rather than presenting fixed patterns, the three rugs unfold as fields of material change. Subtle irregularities appear across the surfaces, suggesting areas where pressure compresses the textile structure while other zones loosen and open. Exposed threads interrupt the compositions, revealing traces of the construction beneath and introducing moments of fragility within the works.
Together, Past Life, Carpe Diem and Reincarnation create a landscape of quiet transformation. Restrained tonal shifts and variations in surface relief allow each piece to appear almost geological, as if shaped through slow accumulation rather than deliberate design. While each work maintains its own distinct presence, the trilogy functions as a unified meditation on time, memory and renewal.
Based between Atlanta and New York, LaMantia’s practice often moves between art, material experimentation and spatial installation. Her work frequently examines how physical processes such as pressure, tension and layering can generate form. Through these investigations, materials become records of time, carrying traces of transformation within their structure.
For this collaboration with Atelier Bowy C.D. / Henzel Studio, those ideas are translated into hand-knotted textile form. Variations in density and surface tension create subtle changes in relief, allowing each rug to behave as both object and terrain.
Presented within the historic spaces of Le Cavallerizze during Milan Design Week 2026, the trilogy introduces a quiet field of transformation into the exhibition space, where layers, pressure and exposed structure are translated into textile form.
