Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Side Table No.2, a side table designed by PlueerSmitt in 2014. Wooden side table composed of two pared-down trestles and a tabletop. The seemingly heavy top contrasts with the rigid supports beneath it, subtly yielding to accommodate the pointed trestle ends that lock the structure together. Its forms feel both familiar and unexpected, sitting between art and design. Viewed from different angles, the table shifts character, offering multiple readings. A piece created to gently challenge our sense of shape, form, and function.

Based in Basel, Swiss designers Dominic Plueer and Olivier Smitt challenge familiar expectations around everyday objects. By emphasizing material presence and allowing unconventional forms to stand on their own—rather than conform to traditional functions—the duo’s small-scale furniture and objects reveal how even the simplest products can take on a new, autonomous character.
