Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Calle Henzel. The new collection Palazzo treats historical rug typologies as material for intervention rather than preservation. Calle Henzel subjects classical patterning to cutting, sanding, washing, pigment application, and exposure to external conditions, shifting the rug from decorative surface to sculptural field. The works evolved through experiments with vintage carpets placed in northern outdoor environments, where ice, frost, and cycles of thaw—combined with abrasion and incision—disrupted inherited visual systems. The resulting hand-knotted pieces retain these fractures through varied pile heights, carving depths, and pigment saturation, with each edition diverging through the contingencies of making. Over the years, Henzel's work has been showcased in prestigious venues and museums worldwide, earning recognition for its innovative approach.
