Kalkeriet Contemporary is pleased to present Riscio, a lamp designed by Joe Colombo in 1967. Joe Colombo's Riscio Lamp has a light, friendly and modern expression, where the triangular shade seems to almost float of the cylindric base. 'Riscio' is the Italian word for 'rickshaw', and the lamp was Colombo's way of recognising the importance of Asian heritage and culture. Italian icon, Joe Colombo (1930-1971) believed in democratic and functional design. Joe Colombo’s proposals and production exude exuberance, grounded in profound intellectual research. He approached design and furnishing experiences with a critical eye, considering their historical influences and technological validity. Colombo championed new forms by combining innovative materials and recognizing the problem-solving opportunities they presented. He believed that designers should not remain detached from technological advancements. Founded on rebellious curiosity and a passion for the unique, Karakter is a bit out of the ordinary. Rooted in the proud Danish design tradition, but always maintaining an international outlook, Karakter presents a striking portfolio of furniture, lighting and objects from designers who have already written the history of design to those who are aspiring to write the future.
