Kalkeriet Contemporary is proud to present the elegant Elé chair by Ann Demeulemeester, a piece that captures the collection’s exploration of form and dimension. This chair masterfully balances delicacy with strength, featuring a wooden frame that lightly touches the ground yet remains sturdy. The front legs offer a subtle surprise, transitioning from square to round as they connect with the seat. The nearly flat front contrasts with the curved back and arms, creating a solid D-shape from above, while the chair’s slender profile adds to its refined, elegant, and visually striking presence.
Ann Demeulemeester founded her eponymous fashion label with creative partner Patrick Robyn in 1985, quickly becoming a key figure in redefining global fashion. After stepping down from her label in 2014, she began exploring new creative avenues, including sculpture and ceramics. Since 2019, Demeulemeester has collaborated with Serax to produce collections of porcelain, cutlery, and glassware, followed by a range of lighting and luminous objects. In September 2022, they expanded into furniture, releasing a collection of stools, chairs, tables, consoles, and sofas in various materials. Demeulemeester is renowned for her intelligent approach to design, transcending trends to create a continually evolving, deeply personal, and contextually relevant world. Her work explores the beauty of contrasts—strength and fragility, structure and nonchalance, poetic and radical, preciousness and functionality.
