Anselm Reyle is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 21st century, known for his ability to reinterpret and revitalize the formal achievements of 1960s and 1970s abstract modernism. Through his distinctive artistic language, he challenges conventional perceptions of art, prompting a reconsideration of historical influences and their resonance in contemporary culture. By navigating the intersection of art and design, Reyle creates visually compelling works that incorporate elements such as neon light, fluorescent pigments, silver Mylar, and mirrored surfaces—often evoking a sense of both spectacle and conceptual detachment. His wall objects, crafted from acrylic glass, reflect an intuitive approach to composition, recalling the expressive spontaneity of informal painting. These works draw direct references to modernist predecessors like Arman and Yves Klein while simultaneously engaging with the aesthetic codes of high culture, inviting viewers to reconsider traditional classifications.
Anselm Reyle, Untitled, 2013 / 2025, launched at the exhibition 'Henzel Studio Collaborations 1st Decade' in conjunction with Frieze Los Angeles at PDC Design Gallery (formerly MOCA West Hollywood), embodies Reyle’s signature exploration of texture, color, and materiality.
His work is featured in prestigious collections, including the Arken Museum for Moderne Kunst, Ishøj, Copenhagen; The Saatchi Gallery, London; Daimler Collection, Berlin; Fondation Pinault, Venice; and the Rubell Family Collection, Miami.
Selected exhibitions: Gagosian, New York; König Galerie, Berlin; Almine Rech Gallery, New York; and Bass Museum of Art, Miami.
